POST-DOCTORAL & VISITING SCHOLARS
We regret that there is no University-provided housing designated for post docs and visiting scholars, although occasionally families with children have been offered housing in University Family Student Housing (see below). For the most part, it is extremely important for you to understand the local rental market in the community.
If your visit corresponds more or less with the dates of our fall or spring semesters or the academic year, please examine the section for Sabbatical Visitors. Otherwise, please browse the information about When to Look. You may be surprised to learn that there is such a thing as looking too early in our local rental market!
If the time is right for you to begin your housing search, you can initiate a subscription ($25 for a month of listing access) by clicking here.
Most serious house-hunters who require housing within the next 30 days secure a rental within a week or two. Only Sabbatical Visitors or Summer Visitors can benefit from starting their housing searches well in advance of their arrival.
FAMILY STUDENT HOUSING
Post doc and visiting scholars who are married or partnered and/or have children may apply to University Family Student housing for the slight chance to be assigned an apartment in University Village Albany after all eligible enrolled U.C. Berkeley students are housed. For information and an application, please visit the following website: http://www.housing.berkeley.edu/livingatcal/studentsfamilies.html.
If you are unfamiliar with UC Berkeley's Office of Post Doc and Visiting Scholar Affairs (VSPA), it may benefit you greatly to examine the following information: http://vspa.berkeley.edu/.
